"Dara was a wonderful addition to our birth experience! From the moment she arrived at my house, she made me feel at ease. I was a little apprehensive about anyone else other than my husband/medical personnel seeing me during labor. But, her warm demeanor and calming presence took that away immediately. Not only did Dara do the "Doula stuff" I somewhat expected, she went above and beyond and did our dishes, and made my husband sandwiches for the hospital stay! It's like she knew that I would be stressed about leaving our house with dirty dishes in the sink. My labor was exceptionally long, and not once did Dara hint that she was exhausted or hungry. She was so patient, which made me feel even more comfortable. We are so glad that we chose Dara to be our Doula! It was like having a living textbook and really close friend right along side us. I would recommend Dara to anyone I knew that was about to give birth. She made my labor the best experience it could have been and I would have her right there by my side all over again.
Just want to give the guys a husband's point of view.... I'm the type of guy who researches things and tries to be as knowledgeable and prepared as possible. That being said, do yourself and the mother-to-be a favor... call Dara. I'm sure things would have turned out o.k. if we just relied on the hospital staff and friends, but having a dedicated, knowledgable, caring doula like Dara made the whole birth process more enjoyable and stress free than I could imagine. No birth is "stress free" really, but Dara seemed to just know exactly what was needed at any given moment. She allowed me to focus on supporting and loving my wife, while at the same time giving us both encouragement and guidance. Dara is very attentive to the situation at hand as has tons of ideas and supplies that you probably won't think of during the experience, plus she is never pushy, annoying, or in the way. Amazing. Men, you want a doula, trust me. Not just any doula, but someone like Dara who knows what she is doing, encourages and supports both mother and father, and enhances the whole birth process from home to hospital. If that's not enough to convince you, know that if it weren't for Dara, I would not have gotten a nice little 2 hour nap during the 63 hour labor. Being able to trust her to take care of my wife so I could re-energize was alone worth it!" Jen + Matt Graham - Jacksonville, FL
